The bank, based in Birmingham, Alabama, said it had earnings of 58 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, came to 57 cents per share.

The holding company for Regions Bank posted revenue of $2.41 billion in the period. Its revenue net of interest expense was $1.92 billion, also missing Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.93 billion.

For the year, the company reported profit of $2.16 billion, or $2.30 per share. Revenue was reported as $7.53 billion.
