When it comes to killer car shows in the Midwest, Lowdown Roundup 2024 continues to make its mark. Hosted by Heidi and Tom Henckel, this event brought the heat to Des Moines, Iowa, from May 31st to June 2nd, 2024, and left attendees in awe. Gauge Magazine is proud to feature this incredible event in our March 2025 issue, showcasing the unique rides, competitions, and overall atmosphere that make this gathering a must-attend.
The action-packed weekend kicked off Friday evening with an underglow contest at the host hotel, setting the tone for a weekend filled with top-tier automotive enthusiasm. The event took full advantage of the expansive Water Works Park, allowing for a vast display area and ample room for cruising. Enthusiasts enjoyed a low limbo contest, engaging games, and an atmosphere built around a shared passion for custom rides.
One of the standout features of Lowdown Roundup 2024 was the impressive variety of vehicles in attendance. From minitrucks and imports to classics, rat rods, and muscle cars, the show offered something for every automotive enthusiast. The creativity and craftsmanship on display were nothing short of spectacular, making it a perfect event for builders and fans alike to exchange ideas and inspiration.
The event featured a large cruising loop, allowing attendees to showcase their builds in motion while soaking in the scenic views of Water Works Park. Vendors lined the grounds, offering everything from custom parts and apparel to exclusive merchandise. The beautiful weekend weather made it all the more enjoyable, with attendees spending hours admiring the vehicles, shopping, and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts.
As always, competition was fierce, but only one ride could take home the Best of Show award. This year, the prestigious title went to Edgar Deanda from Team Billet with his stunning Tahoe. The event wrapped up on Sunday with the Top 40 and Best of Awards ceremony, recognizing the hard work and dedication of participants before they hit the road home.
Beyond being a top-tier automotive event, Lowdown Roundup 2024 is also about giving back. All proceeds from the event were donated to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, making it a show that not only celebrates custom vehicles but also supports an important cause.
With the 5th anniversary of Lowdown Roundup on the horizon, this show is only getting bigger and better. Whether you’re a die-hard car enthusiast or just looking for an exciting weekend event, this is one Midwest gathering you don’t want to miss.
