Man City Stumble Again Amid Guardiola’s Extension

Manchester City suffered their fifth consecutive defeat in all competition after getting beaten 4-0 against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. That defeat arrived just days after their boss, Pep Guardiola confirmed his stay with the Citizens for another two seasons.

Man City Suffered a Disappointing Loss against Tottenham

Experiencing disappointing results in their last four games in all competitions, City were determined to get back into winning ways as they host Spurs on Saturday. The news regarding Guardiola’s contract extension ahead of the weekend match was expected to boost Erling Haaland and co’s spirit.

However, the game didn’t go as planned for Man City as the home team saw themselves going one goal down after just 13 minutes through James Maddison’s close-range finish. Madders extended the visitor’s lead on 20 minutes which lasted until the half-time break.

City tried to bounce back after the break but they just couldn’t find any breakthrough and instead of getting back on level terms it was Spurs that added to their lead. Two more goals from Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson completed Pep Guardiola’s men’s woe as they suffered their fifth consecutive defeats.

Guardiola Believes City Can Bounce Back from Crisis

That defeat certainly puts a sour taste for Man City’s boss, Guardiola who was expected to celebrate his contract extension with a better result. Nevertheless, the Spaniard remains confident that his side will be able to get through their recent slump and get back into winning ways.

Commenting to the media after the match, Guardiola admits that he and his players are entering an unfamiliar situation after suffering their fifth consecutive defeats. However, the tactician is not losing hope over his team’s ability to bounce back and is adamant that they can win their next match.

“Now we have to live it, and we have to break it, winning the next games, and especially the next one,” Guardiola said to the media (via Fabrizio Romano).
