Aston Villa is set to take on Nottingham Forest in the second leg of the Europa League semi-final on Thursday.
Aston Villa will be facing the game of their life this season with the second leg semifinal underway this midweek. They are currently not in their ideal form, which is a bit concerning, especially compared to their opposition side.
Despite the fact that Unai Emery’s men are playing host to Forest in Villa Park, it does not guarantee anything, including a victory, unless they can display their true quality with great solidity, consistency and creativity on Thursday night.
The Lions have been on their negative trend with their three consecutive defeats, from Fulham, Forest and Spurs. It is their first since November 2024, and they really need a victory here more than anything.
Only a two-goal win minimum would secure their place in the summit. A narrow win might be too risky, as the game would have to continue for extra time. It gets even trickier if the match must be decided on penalties.
The worrying part is that The Tricky Trees have even been on their positive trend. They have been unbeaten in the last 10 games in all competitions. Vitor Pereira’s men even clinched five consecutive wins in the past five matches, including a big win over Sunderland and a convincing triumph over Chelsea on the road in their last outing.
Ollie Watkins and Co know this is an important game, in which everything in this season is at stake. It is also what Tyrone Mings says regarding the upcoming fixture as reported by the club’s official site, avfc.co.uk, when he did the interview after their loss at home to Spurs last weekend.
“We have a huge game on Thursday and we’ll try to pick the bones of what went wrong today and not do that again.
Thursday is huge, it’s felt huge for a long time. It’s a huge opportunity for this football club in a competition that we’ve felt strong in so far. It’s against tough opposition, but you get to this stage of the season and every game is difficult.”
Aston Villa v Forests kicks off in Villa Park at 8 pm UK time on Thursday, May 7. The other semifinal between SC Freiburg and the Portuguese outfit, Sporting Braga is also staged at the same time.
The clash of Forest and Villa in the semifinal will be available on TNT Sports 1 as well as live streaming. The fans can also enjoy this game on HBO Max.
