Aston Villa are getting ready for the next match at home while playing host to Roberto de Zerbi’s Tottenam on Sunday.
Villa begins their crucial time as the season comes to an end soon. They are still in contention for the Champions League and underway to snatch a title in the Europa League. Yet, they have not been in their best form lately.
This Sunday, Unai Emery’s men will be welcoming Spurs. It is a tricky game, as they might be struggling to stay in the top flight, but under Roberto De Zerbi, Tottenham has slowly turned into a different team in the past few games. The Italian boss is on a mission to save them from going down to the second tier.
This is why Villa must be cautious, as Spurs will strive to go home with three points instead of just trying to hold John McGinn and Co. in a draw. Every win is crucial for them for safety.
On the contrary, the Lions have one goal in mind for this game: securing the Champions League spot as fast as possible by another win. Playing at their home turf is certainly an advantage but never take Spurs’ threat lightly.
Emery has warned his team to focus on the game ahead, not the game afterwards, which is the second leg of the Europa League semi-final in the midweek. It will also be held in Villa Park and is similarly crucial for their title dream this season. Yet, the Spanish boss urges his team to take one game at a time.
Villa’s negative trend with two consecutive losses is certainly concerning. Their lack of clinical finishes and set-piece goals has been their issue lately. Not to mention the defensive midfielder crisis again, as Amadou Onana was forced to come off in the last outing at the City Ground. Emery needs to find the solution to such. Otherwise, their campaign will be the season to forget again.
