With the ongoing 2026 Beijing Auto Show, Japan-based Nissan carmaker has displayed a couple of interesting concepts which highlight the upcoming launch of two models: the Urban SUV PHEV and the Terrano PHEV.
Both prototypes, shown in Beijing during the event running until May 3, are expected to reach production form within one year, which places them close to final showroom specification already.
The company linked both projects to a wider recovery program first outlined during the Nissan Vision event held earlier in April 2026. At that presentation, Nissan said the long-term plan stays on course. The brand also confirmed a reduction in model nameplates, moving from 56 to 45, while several older names return across future programs.

Nissan also reorganized its portfolio into four categories. During the same presentation, the company previewed the Nissan Juke Electric for Europe and the global Nissan Rogue, identified in brackets as X-Trail, with Hybrid e-Power. Teasers also pointed toward a new Nissan Skyline generation for Japan, with an Infiniti version planned for North America, following earlier brand logic. The Xterra name also appeared again, with a planned return between 2028 and 2029.
In Beijing, attention moved toward two separate plug-in hybrid concepts. Nissan described both as “marking a significant step in its accelerated product rollout, and highlighting China’s role as one of the company’s lead markets and a global innovation and export hub supporting long-term growth.”
The Urban SUV PHEV Concept targets younger buyers in China. Nissan tied the design direction to the NX8 and said the model previews a future sport utility vehicle family. The stated goal combines advanced electrification technology with daily urban use.

The second vehicle carries more history. Terrano returns as a concept name under plug-in hybrid form and brings back a badge Nissan used outside North America from 1985 to 2004 as the Pathfinder counterpart. In parts of Europe, the Nissan Terrano II also appeared as a separate sport utility vehicle. India and Russia still use the Terrano name on a model based on the Dacia Duster.
Nissan says the Terrano PHEV Concept uses “the latest plug-in hybrid technology, and builds on Nissan’s off-road heritage while addressing the dual needs of outdoor adventure and urban commuting.”

The article source points toward North America because the design direction from the Beijing concept may indicate where a future Xterra heads visually, though styling differences remain. An Infiniti variant also sits within wider discussion for later development.
For now, Nissan has placed both concepts under one clear timeline. Production versions should arrive within twelve months, and both stand close to final road-going form already.
