Phool Mahal Palace, Kishangarh Rajasthan

My daughter Chhavi and I visited Phool Mahal Palace in Kishangarh Rajasthan. You may as why did I go to Kishangarh? We went because I asked AI to tell me of a beautiful town on the Delhi Ajmer Shatabdi route. So, it gave me Kishangarh and I liked what I saw of it online in pictures!

Before going, I found both Phool Mahal Palace and the Kishangarh Fort listed as normal tourist attractions. However the reality is slightly different. The royal family of Kishangarh owns Phool Mahal Palace and runs it as a private hotel. And it is right in the shadow of the Kishangarh Fort. But the Kishangarh Fort is open only to the guests of Phool Mahal Palace Hotel. You can visit Phool Mahal Palace Hotel by prior arrangement with the manager, subject to availability. Both the places are private and have restrictions on visits.

But back to our trip, we took the Shatabdi Express from Gurgaon and it stops at Kishangarh station. There was a pick up which the hotel has arranged for us, so it was all nice and smooth. It is about 20 minutes from the station. Soon we are arrived at the hotel and after the check in headed to our room!

Hotel is right by the Gundolav lake. As it is a former Palace and belongs to the royal family, it is utterly gorgeous. Our room was huge. The entire ground floor of my house is probably slightly bigger than my room at the hotel! The bathroom was nice too. We had a view of the lake from the room.

They have a beautiful room called ‘The Salon’. As you walk from the dining area towards the park it is in the middle. Go and have a look. It is a fabulous room. It is fit for royalty but then I forget, it was meant for royalty. The hotel has huge ground, so you can walk aound in peace. The lake is visible from various parts of the hotel!

Evening chai and pakora by the fire

As it is Rajasthan, we went there in winter and the weather was absolutely fabulous. It had blue skies with warm sun and lack of pollution. It was heaven for us coming from the national capital region! Apart from our first lunch we took, all are meals outside.

Talking about food my daughter and I had just been to Kumbhalgarh before this trip and we stayed at a chain hotel- Radisson and the food was pretty good but restaurant style with menu. It is not so at the Phool Mahal. The food is very nice but home style. They make it fresh for you. They ask you what you want to eat and they will tell their availability as well. They serve wonderful food but in a different way.

You can very quickly make out that the staff are not Hotel management degree holders but they are really nice. You be nice to them and they are super nice to you. We really like the food and the staff out there.

We really enjoyed having chai and pakoda by the fire that they let every evening in the lawn overlooking the lake. It was wonderful! One day Chhavi and I wore saree as it is our custom but I’ll put that in a separate post.

Phool Mahal Palace and Kishangarh Fort along with Gundolav Lake

The general manager and the guide who is sometimes available at the hotel will help you arrange excursions around the city. The most famous is of course the marble slurry. The Kishangarh Fort as I said earlier, open to the guest of the Phool Mahal Palace only.

We really had a good experience at the full Mahal Palace and we would definitely like to go back sometime.
