Police said 2-year-old Royce Hawkins is a Black boy with black hair and brown eyes, who was last seen just before 7 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of Kenyon Street NW wearing a long-sleeved, yellow and blue striped shirt. The child was with his mother at the time, according to police.
Anyone who sees the child should call 911, police said.
“This is of the utmost importance,” interim D.C. Police Chief Jeffery Carroll said during a press conference.
Officers responded to a shooting just before 11 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of Kenyon Street in Northwest D.C.. When they arrived, they found Hawkins’ mother in an alley suffering from gunshots. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
According to Carroll, she got into an argument in the alley with a man. The man then shot her and fled the scene.
The child has not been seen since.
Officers are investigating the scene and speaking with area residents, Carroll said.
