SAN JOSE, Calif. — NFL players aren’t just physically taxed in the Super Bowl. They’re also mentally tested in their media obligations.

Case in point: Drake Maye talked for one hour and 2 minutes straight Monday night during Super Bowl LX Opening Night, and we actually learned a lot about the Patriots quarterback.

The most important thing: Maye feels his injured throwing shoulder will be 100% by kickoff.

Here’s what else we learned about Maye:

• Maye said his heroes are his three older brothers, Luke, Cole and Beau.

“Growing up with them, having somebody that close to me live their own lives, and me just learn from them and be the youngest brother and having something to chase. I was chasing my older brothers. They all had a passion. I was just trying to find a passion for myself that I could follow them, and it just happened to be football, and now I’m here.”

• Maye has pre-game superstitions and good-luck charms.

“I try to keep my warm-up routine the same every week. I put my right shoe on before my left shoe. I put my left sock on before my right sock. Other than that, I don’t really listen to music in headphones. I listen to what the locker room is playing, so who knows what that is. And then other than that, I try to keep the little things the same. I try to eat the same. I don’t eat very much on game day. I try to keep it light, and then from there, I stand in the same place for the national anthem. I got a lot of things I probably do. Good question.”

Maye went on to say he eats a peanut butter and jelly sandwich before games, and if it’s a night game, he’ll have a grilled cheese during the day.

• Maye said he has not talked to Tom Brady ahead of Super Bowl LX.

Brady said Monday on the “Let’s Go!” podcast, “I don’t have a dog in the fight in this one.”

It would clearly make sense for Brady to root for the Patriots, but he’s a minority owner of the Raiders, and the head coach they’re reportedly hiring, Klint Kubiak, is the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator.

• Maye plays either or.

Dunkin’ or Starbucks? “I live in Boston. You know it’s Dunkin’.”

In n Out or Shake Shack? “As a east coast guy, I grew up on Shake Shack.”

Skiing or surfing? “I would choose either if I could, but if I had to choose one, I’d be in the ocean. Surfin’.”

Tupac or Biggie? “I think I gotta pay respects to Tupac.”

Seafood or mexican? “Mexican food.”

Pizza or tacos? “Pizza.”

• Maye picks his favorite QBs in NFL history.

“I think Tom Brady’s gotta be one of them. Just what he did for my organization, what he did for the sport, what he’s done for just the game in general, the winning, the success, the attitude he brought to playing this position. And then also I’d say to rival that, Peyton Manning. Just how he carries himself, how he approached playing the quarterback position at such a high level, how much work he put into it and just the person he is.”

• Maye picks his favorite MMA fighter.

“Shoutout Sean O’Malley. I’m a big fan of Sugar Sean. I’m a big MMA fan — Jon Jones, love watching Jon Jones. I love watching a lot of the guys. I know the fights are late night, but in the offseason, I stay up and watch them.”

• Maye likes Bad Bunny.

“I saw him in the Adam Sandler movie, and I know Bad Bunny. I know he’s a big-time artist, and I’m a big fan of him. Obviously, he sings in a different languate I can’t sing, but I’m a fan of Bad Bunny.”

• Best advice from Brady.

“I met Tom a few times, and one of the best things he said is “no shortcuts to it.” There’s no shortcuts to putting in the work, and the proof is in the pudding. And knowing that the shortcuts people take, it’s not worth it. You get the most out of what you put into it, and he’s been great at that, and obviously he showed that throughout his career.”

• Favorite female athletes.

“I’ll do two. I’ve gotten into tennis a little bit more. A lot of respects to Serena Williams. She’s maybe one of the greatest female athletes of all time. And then I heard Caitlin Clark was pulling for us in the playoffs. I know she’s a baller.

• What quarterback he models his game after.

“Kind of the first thing that comes to mind as a young middle schooler who fell in love with the position would be Aaron Rodgers. I was a big fan of Aaron Rodgers. Got a chance to play him a few times, and just how he’s treated me. He reached out to me after the game, and he’s such a special thrower of the football. He’s got so much swag. It’s different when you see him in warmups throwing the football, and just how I’ve heard from teammates of his and coaches of his how he treats others and caries about others inside the facility is just special. I’m a big fan of his.

• Maye won’t take the bait on Matt Damon.

Guillermo from “Jimmy Kimmel Live” asked Maye to tell Matt Damon that he “sucks.”

“Matt Damon? No, I want to tell Matt Damon he’s the man. Any Pats fan, I’m a fan.”
