A Newton woman is accused of impersonating a doctor, as she allegedly assaulted a female patient and didn’t allow her to leave until the surgery was done.
Dingrui Wang, 34, has been charged in connection with allegedly improperly performing a cosmetic surgery on a woman — resulting in permanent damage to the victim.
Wang, while not holding a Massachusetts physician registration, back in January of 2020 allegedly represented herself as a licensed physician and performed double eyelid blepharoplasty surgery on a 22-year-old woman at an unlicensed clinic at 57A Brighton Ave., in Allston.
During the surgery, Wang allegedly injected local anesthetic into the patient’s eyelids, as well as non-FDA approved dermal fillers, resulting in permanent scarring.
“After Wang completed surgery on the first eyelid, the victim, in extreme pain, attempted to leave the facility but Wang pushed her back onto the table and prevented her from leaving until the surgery was completed,” the Suffolk DA’s office said in a statement.
Wang also allegedly misrepresented herself as holding current aesthetician, massage therapist, and hair salon licenses on a loan application to the American Lending Center. Wang received a $37,379 loan while the licenses were suspended.
“Physicians are licensed for very good reasons, primary among them the assurance that patients are going to be treated by someone trained and certified to deliver safe, effective medical procedures,” Suffolk DA Kevin Hayden said in a statement. “When misrepresentations are made the results can be devastating.”
Wang has been charged with four counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious injury, one count of kidnapping, and two counts of larceny over $1,200 by false pretense.
She’s also charged with unauthorized practice of medicine and improper use of the title of physician and receiving payment for a surgical procedure based on that misrepresentation.
Wang was indicted by a Suffolk grand jury last week.
