Police Blotter: Fall River double murder suspect charged

A 54-year-old man has been charged in connection with a double murder that occurred in Fall River on Friday.

Arlington Cole, 54, of Fall River, was charged with two counts of murder and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm, according to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn, III.

He’s accused of killing Elizabeth Almeida, 54, and her son Nicholas Almeida, 25, at 431 Barnes Street.

According to the DA, Cole is expected to be arraigned at Fall River District Court on Monday.

The double murder is being investigated by the Mass State Police, the DA’s office, and the Fall River Police.

Teen arrested on gun charges

Boston Police arrested an 18-year-old on gun charges in Mattapan early Sunday morning.

Tyler Powell, of Dorchester, was charged with carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a large capacity firearm, and defacement of a firearm serial number.

He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.

Police said they arrested Powell after a car he was riding in failed to stop for a red light at the intersection of Bowdoin Street and Washington Street just after midnight.

After conducting a pat frisk, police said they recovered a Smith & Wesson SD40VE with an obliterated serial number and nine rounds in the magazine on Powell’s waistband.

Incident Summary

BPD responded to 250 incidents in the 24-hour period ending at 10 a.m. Sunday, according to the department’s incident log. Those included arrests for four aggravated assaults, three residential burglaries, 23 miscellaneous larcenies, and two auto thefts.
