Patriots select Georgia center Jared Wilson 95th overall

FOXBORO — The Patriots made their fans wait, but after two trades down, they selected a potential Day 1 starter.

The Patriots selected Georgia center Jared Wilson 95th overall. They originally had the 77th overall pick and traded down with the Panthers for the 85th overall pick and No. 146 overall in the fifth round. They then flipped the 85th overall pick to the Chiefs for the 95th selection and a 2026 fourth-round pick (originally the Bears’ selection).

Wilson is an extremely athletic center who should come in and compete with Garrett Bradbury for the Patriots’ starting spot at center. The rookie out of Georgia ran a 4.84-second 40-yard dash at 6-foot-3, 310 pounds at the combine with a 32-inch vertical leap and 4.56-second short shuttle.

He didn’t allow a sack last season for Georgia, letting up just one QB hit and five hurries. He missed two games with a foot injury. He also played 93 college snaps at guard.

It would be fitting for Wilson to take over the center spot from David Andrews, another Georgia product, who was released earlier this offseason.

Wilson is the fourth straight offensive player taken by the Patriots after offensive tackle Will Campbell (fourth), running back TreVeyon Henderson (38th) and wide receiver Kyle Williams (69th).

The Patriots have three other potential centers on their roster in Jake Andrews, Cole Strange and Ben Brown. They also have a hole to fill at left guard, where Strange, Layden Robinson and Sidy Sow are options.
