Arsenal will be lauded for another emphatic victory over Crystal Palace last week, but it was marred with the unfortunate injury to Bukayo Saka.
According to The Times, Saka is set to be sidelined for several weeks and his absence will be hugely felt. In 21 appearances for Arsenal this season, Saka has scored nine goals and provided 12 assists for his teammates.
Chasing Liverpool was always going to be uphill task, and doing it without Saka will be problematic. Then there’s the issue of Arsenal’s grueling January fixture schedule – Ipswich (home, EPL), Brentford (away, EPL), Brighton (away, EPL), Newcastle (home, EFL), Manchester United (home, FAC), Tottenham (home, EPL), Aston Villa (home, EPL), Dinamo Zagreb (home, UCL), Wolves (away, EPL) and Girona (away, UCL).
With Saka injured and his backup, Raheem Sterling, also injured, Arsenal has limited options in their attacking berth with the hit-and-miss combination of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard failing to reach the heights expected of them. Gabriel Jesus just found his scoring boots and Kai Havertz hasn’t replicated his end of season form from the last campaign, so it’s going to be a tough ask.
There might be a need to delve into the transfer window, but till then, it might be a struggle without Saka.
