Thoughts on Gabriel Martinelli’s Injury Concerns

Gabriel Martinelli featured as a substitute in Brazil’s win over Chile but he is a major doubt for tomorrow morning’s clash with Peru, and could potentially miss the Bournemouth game this weekend.

Here’s the statement from the Brazil FA regarding the potential injury,

“Player Gabriel Martinelli complained of pain in his right calf and underwent an MRI on Sunday night which showed a small area of muscle edema in the area.”

“The athlete continues to undergo physiotherapy treatment under the care of the Brazilian national team’s medical department”

In the same window we might have potentially lost Bukayo Saka to injury, in addition to Kai Havertz and Thomas Partey not even traveling due to some niggles, all is not well at Arsenal from an injury standpoint. There are rumors over a potential injury setback for club captain, Martin Odegaard, and that’s a very bitter pill to swallow.

I feel very sad for Martinelli, as he had been on the trenches in terms of his form for quite a while and had finally picked up some good form, scoring in two of his last three games, so to go down with an injury is as cruel as it can be, especially with the fact that his place in the team is not fully guaranteed.

Will Martinelli be fit enough to play Bournemouth?

All eyes will be on Brazil’s qualifier against Peru which takes place by 1.45am tomorrow morning, and if we don’t see Martinelli get any minutes, even from the bench as a cameo, that would cause me some great concern. The second line of action would be to wait Mikel Arteta’s press conference, but Arsenal’s gaffer has earned a cunning reputation for putting his cards very close to his chest, so a Martinelli update is very unlikely.

This means that if we don’t see Martinelli in the Thursday and Friday training pictures from the official site, we can deduce that he’s set for a spell on the sidelines. Arsenal has able replacements from the left flank with Leandro Trossard, Raheem Sterling and even Gabriel Jesus capable of doing a stellar job there if summoned.
